The president, Greg Earl announced the SSPS award results for 2017 at the annual presentation night at the Buckingham International Hotel on 13 December.

Aggregate Competition Results – 2017
These awards are determined from the monthly competition results and accumulate over the whole year with 5 points awarded for 1st place, 4 points for 2nd place, 3 points for 3rd place, 2 points for Highly Commended and 1 point for all others. Note that where the total points is the same, a count back based on the number of firsts, seconds, etc. has been used to determine the actual place.

Perpetual Competition Awards
During the year three of our monthly competitions compete for our Perpetual Trophies. They are awarded to the best images in each of the Landscape/Seascape, Portrait and Photojournalism/Social Documentary competitions.
The perpetual trophy may be awarded to either an A or B Grade Image and is chosen by the judges of each of the three competitions.
In B Grade each of the winning Colour Print, Monochrome Print and Digital Projected Images in each of the three competitions receive a club trophy.
In A Grade an individual trophy is presented to the best overall image only, chosen from the Colour, Mono and DPI winners in each of the three competitions.

End of Year Competition Awards
Images that have been entered into a monthly competition during the year are eligible for submission to the final End of Year Competition. Members are invited to enter what they consider are their best images for the year, in prints and DPI, regardless of whether they had won an award in a monthly competition or not.

Most Improved Photographer for 2017 was a joint award this year and was awarded to – Gil & Glenda Urquhart
SSPS Club Champion Awards
These awards recognize the A Grade and the B Grade members who have achieved the greatest overall level of success in the regular monthly competitions throughout the year.
In awarding the title of Club Champion, we are recognizing that the member will have exhibited with quite a degree of success in all three sections, namely Colour Prints, Mono Prints and DPI and over a variety of subjects during the year.
