One of the biggest pieces of D850 speculation floating around the Internet the last few days seems to be about the sensor. Specifically, who makes it. And no, it’s not Sony. Nikon have actually designed their own sensor for the D850, according to a Q&A session with Imaging Resource. Nikon also promise some pretty significant […]

Nikon D850 was officially announced yesterday, and we went through all of its features. The camera undoubtedly thrilled many digital photographers, but there’s another useful feature occasional film photographers will find useful. With the optional ES-2 film digitizing adapter, Nikon D850 doubles as a 45.7 MP film scanner. You can use it for both 35mm […]

Shooting storms is an incredible experience, and many of us are attracted to it. Daniel Modl from Norway was filming a heavy thunderstorm from his deck when suddenly a lightning struck incredibly near him. It destroyed a part of his backyard and deck, missing the man for only a couple of meters. In the […]

This week on dPS we published our 7,000th post here on the Digital Photography School blog.

I started this site back in April 2006 because my friends – who had all just bought new DSLRs – kept asking me the same questions about how to use their new gear to its potential.

Instead of answering them one by one I decided to write down my answers on a blog – not really knowing that 11 years later I’d have created a resource that:

This is a somewhat limited bit not insignificant ruling. Techdirt reports that the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts has “sort of” decided that the Supreme Court’s Riley decision isn’t just for phones. It covers digital cameras, too. I find calligraphy wonderful, and it remains something Id like to learn. So naturally, I was enchanted by the combination of calligraphy and photography. Mexican artists Said Dokins and Leonardo (Leo) Luna combine calligraphy and light painting. Their project is named Heliographies of Memory, and they use calligraphic movements along with lights and long exposure […]

In this age of digital photography (and other imagery) it is pretty much necessary to interface with your camera via a computer. It will store your image files, allow you to edit them, and upload to various platforms. However, like your camera, your computer is an expensive piece of technology that needs to be understood in order to be used properly.

On Facebook photography groups, you will see a lot of questions about what hardware specifications people need when buying a new computer... more

The idea of streaming liveview from your phone to your camera is not a new one. I’ve been doing it over USB and WiFi now with my Nikon DSLRs to qDslrDashboard for a while now. Other solutions, such as the TetherTools Case Relay. But, both of these systems are quite limited. You have to have […]

Nikon D850 is officially out, and according to the specs, its pretty impressive. But other than just reading the specs, its great to see the camera in action. Therefore, we bring you a couple of hands-on videos taken by different photographers, displaying the features of the Nikons latest full-frame DSLR. Photographer David Flores tested out […]
