Italian astrophotography equipment brand PrimaLuceLab is selling a version of the Nikon D5500 that it has adapted for long exposures using a custom cooling system that manages the temperature of the cameras sensor. The PrimaLuceLab Nikon D5500a Cooled uses dual Peltier cells to create a thermoelectric cooling effect that allows users to maintain the temperature of the sensor and to cool it by as much as 27C (49F) below the ambient air temperature.

If you drive around in industrial areas, you may have noticed massive cooling towers across the landscape, the tall, open-topped, cylindrical concrete towers that are used for cooling water or condensing steam for industrial uses.
