Mr. Ghoorchian, I just found some pictures online of you practicing horseback archery and I was wondering if you were willing to teach me your techniques.

Kind regards,

A few weeks ago, Kodak announced the Ektra, its new 'photography first' smartphone designed to appeal to mobile photographers. Designed to look like a camera as much as a phone, the Ektra includes a 21MP rear camera, a 13MP front camera (for the obligatory selfies you're sure to take), and features such as an F2.0 maximum... more

I’ve been doing this long enough that I honestly can’t remember why or how I started. I mean, I remember my origin story… but as an adult I also know that is probably a distillation and summary of what exactly went on. There are no easy lessons now.

Here are my fifteen year lessons:

  • Photography is communication. Why I do something is 80% of what I end up doing. I like to tell stories with photos. Even when I’m producing a... more

December 3rd, 2015 was the day I bought my first camera. I carefully chose one body and one lens: a Nikon D5300 and a 50mm prime lens. Here are a few of the things I’ve learned throughout my journey:

  • I still don’t know how to compose. My good photos are a tiny fraction of all the pictures I take.
  • You never know which one will be your next favorite picture. Sometimes you don’t realize that you are taking a really good shot, but... more

Back in December 2015 I saw a rumor report online about a 600w/s Chinese monolight with onboard battery, TTL, and built-in radio. After doing some research I found they had a TTL speedlight that worked within the same system, and I became very excited.

At the time, I was combining Paul C. Buff Einsteins with the Yongnuo YN-622-TX/YN-568, and while I had power control of all my lighting from my camera, the receivers, cables, and batteries necessary to make it... more

Introduction

I remember very clearly when the Canon PowerShot G9 X arrived in the DPReview offices. I was a fairly recent hire, and myself and another recent hire took the G9 X and the G5 X out to shoot some samples. As a person who still clings to old full frame DSLRs, I got along with the G5 X much more so than with the G9 X. It had way more controls, a good viewfinder, a brighter zoom lens and a real grip. I really liked that camera (and my... more
