The latest version of Corel's AfterShot image editing and Raw conversion application introduces a 'Send To External Editor' button that allows Raw files to be opened and worked on in AfterShot, then exported directly to Photoshop. Facebook yesterday announced that it’s working on new artificial intelligence technology that can describe photos to people who can’t see them. The AI would allow the blind to interact with the world of photo sharing in ways that aren’t currently possible.

Sony’s rollout of uncompressed 14-bit RAW continues: the company announced today that it will be releasing a new firmware update for the Sony a7 II on November 18th that adds the ability to the camera.

With the new feature, the a7 II joins the a7S II, a7R II, and RX1R II as Sony full-frame cameras that can do uncompressed 14-bit RAW. The feature can be activated by selecting the option within the menu system.

Sony's a7 II will receive a firmware update that will boost its AF performance with adapted lenses as well as adding support for uncompressed Raw. The update adds a menu option that pushes the camera to either use phase detection (for speed) or contrast detection (for accuracy) when using non-native lenses. Read more
